Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.
The team omitted the name of Rice specifically in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, shared a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. He was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
