Following weeks of tension, plots and sabotage, The Celebrity Traitors concludes with a nail-biting finale
Spoiler alert - This article reveals key moments from Celebrity Traitors finale
Throughout the season, audiences saw eliminations, double-crosses, intense glares, and a memorable moment that pierced all suspense.
Yet on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the inaugural Celebrity Traitors was revealed.
Out of 19 contestants, just a handful were left standing: Deceivers and loyal players competing for the prize.
Soon, the field narrowed to just three: the remaining contestants.
In the end, funny man Alan Carr was crowned the champion, in a shocking result that broke the internet and made him tearful.
"This has been destroying me, I'm so sorry," he exclaimed, revealing to the other players that he was actually a traitor. "I'm an awful human being."
"You did brilliantly," they consoled him. "Everything's fine."
Social media quickly erupted with this development. "The worst deceiver being the most effective player," wrote one user.
"It couldn't have been a better conclusion," wrote another, while someone else described it as "the television highlight of the year."
The organization he selected, Neuroblastoma UK, will receive the entire winnings, with the final pot reaching eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
The comedian's evolution from giggle liability to strategic player was one of the standout highlights of the season.
However, his victory still shocked viewers in shock, according to industry observers.
"The idea of Alan, of all people, executing an expert performance in deceit felt just as probable as him maintaining composure through one of his own punchlines."
On subsequent discussions, the other contestants explained the reasons nobody had ever really suspected him.
"Alan could have come down to breakfast in traitor attire and I still wouldn't have thought he was a traitor. I was too busy laughing," a player said.
"The majority didn't vote for him because how can you vote for a person so charming?" questioned another celebrity.
Carr said he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his time on the program.
"I'd like to participate once more... I don't think it would work a second time!"
The final episode was lengthened to over an hour on the network. There was an unusual opening than usual, as all the celebs were aware who would appear at the breakfast table.
Viewers heard some very uplifting, and very un-Traitors-esque music, as we recapped some moments from each of the finalists' time in the castle.
True to form, the comedian provided some of the most memorable lines.
"To be honest, I began this game a bit of a nervous wreck. I've betrayed some really good friends to save myself, I've murdered beloved figures openly. I'm clearly more deceptive and player than I believed."
Meanwhile, another contestant noted that reaching the conclusion was "way more stressful than playing for England", while someone else said he was "completely amazed" to have made it so far.
Early on in the episode, several players seemed to be making a bid to become the new style icon of the castle, taking over from the previously eliminated fashionable contestant.
Carr emerged at the morning meal looking like a vintage television personality in a checked maroon suit, before changing into a bejewelled white suit.
But he was outstyled by another contestant's maroon velvet tuxedo. Impressive style.
Next up was the challenge, with the remaining contestants getting on board a locomotive called - naturally - The Deceivers' Railway.
This task involved destroying images of eliminated players. Have sympathy for a player who managed to get hit in the head THREE times by the lid of a substantial container.
Soon after, the moment arrived for the elimination discussion.
Two traitors did a pinky promise in advance, pledging to support each other. "We've come a long way, I won't throw him under a bus," stated one, while the other simply laughed.
However, one did stick to their agreement. But, having slipped under the radar for most of the game, their partner still got the most votes.
The last deceiver appeared he was in significant distress to be the last traitor standing. "Being alone, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm unpredictable, a rudderless ship."
Social media and viewers were similarly upset.
"I hoped against this contestant to be eliminated. A truly loveable traitor," commented a commentator.
"You will forever be remembered in the show's legacy," posted a different viewer.
But there was no time to focus on this departure. Before long, they were at the endgame - which was the moment everyone anticipated.
The last players gathered around the ceremonial fire. And the alliance collapsed, precisely when it mattered the most, in a truly WTF moment.
One contestant was painfully banished - following a surprising decision from their partner, who turned against them.
"It hurts to be stabbed in the back last minute in that manner," remarked the eliminated player. Later, we learned that when they message, the eliminated contestant calls their former ally as a traitor.
Ultimately, just three players remained in the game: the last participants.
One player, looking incredibly smug, voted to end the game. So did another, and everything depended on the final participant, who made the identical choice - which meant that the deceiver emerged victorious.
For observers, the scene where remaining contestants comforted the winner was "beautiful TV". "I predict it could be a contender for outstanding scene at television honors," they said.
Fortunately, the winner soon recovered from his emotional outburst, and was able to enjoy his victory.
"What a rollercoaster. I thought I was terrible at deception, I had no poker face and here I am a winner," he said.
And he even joked about the memorable elimination - his close ally in an early episode - by reaching over the host in the final scene and touching her cheek.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The recent episodes of celebrity gossiping, scheming and sometimes unexpected moments may feel like a bizarre fantasy. Yet it actually all happen. It will be remembered fondly.
