Edwards and O'Neil are two of the early names under consideration to succeed the former manager as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Pereira was sacked on the weekend after the team's 10-match without a victory beginning to the top-flight campaign.
And both candidates - both of who have previous links to the team - are part of the names to be considered by the club leadership.
Edwards is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a possible hurdle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.
However the former Luton head coach - who played over a century of games for the club during his playing career - is said to be a strong contender for the position.
The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys support from the club board as they begin the process of hiring a fresh head coach.
O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise contender, even though he would be a surprising appointment considering he was sacked by the club in December last year.
The former West Ham midfielder is currently unemployed meaning the club would not be required to provide any compensation.
