A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid year, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - caused him falling of the elite rankings and eventually separating with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now training with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive victory over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface after that period of that year.

The win also means the Russian has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my both daughters together, so to secure a championship is really nice," commented ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my child her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

His retrieving approach and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted observers to wonder if his ability to perform at the highest level was over.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an improved serve.

He came back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The pair traded break points in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his first tour title, took control to push for a decider.

The opponent rescued four early-game break points in a competitive third set before the champion broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
